Sat nam, friends!
This week we've got a wonderful treat for those who are struggling with addiction issues. We all suffer with addiction to some extent; to some the dial is higher up than others. In order to be able to manifest all the wonderful intentions that we set for the new year, we need to be able to control and beat addiction. I had a little chat with recovery and addiction guru Tommy Rosen on how best to tackle this issue.
How To Beat Addiction with Tommy Rosen - Mondays With Maya Fiennes
Tommy says that addiction is like a stuck energy. Everybody has experienced it at some point in life and at certain points in our lives it can be stronger than at others. In order to get that energy unstuck, we need to do anything that will help move this energy through the body and help us to adopt a new way of thinking. This will release any stuck energy, especially the energy of addiction. Where better to begin that with the breath. There are some great meditations that you can do every day to chip away at that stuck energy and here's a very easy one to get you started.
Exercise for Stuck Energy
This exercise is accessible to anyone, anywhere. You can do it sitting on the couch, on a chair or, or on the floor if that's comfortable for you.
- Bring the hands together, join the fingertips and make a little tent with your hands.
- Bring the hands to the heart.
- Close the eyes and relax the shoulders.
- Inhale for 5 seconds, hold for 5 seconds, then exhale for 5 seconds.
- Repeat for one minute.
When you're finished, exhale and keep the eyes closed for a few moments. Observe the very subtle shift in how you feel. Maybe you feel more present, maybe you feel a bit calmer, or maybe you can observe a sense of wellbeing or sense of completeness. If that's how you feel after one minute, imagine how you'll feel after doing this simple breathing exercise for 3 minutes, 5 minutes or 11 minutes.
Try it and let me know how you get on!
