Mondays With Maya: How to Recharge When You're Feeling Stressed

Sat nam!

We’re coming up fast on the holiday season, and I am already hearing from my clients and friends that they’re stressed out. Listen, I hear you. Between travel, family obligations, events, and the general busyness that comes as we scramble to complete projects at the end of the year, it’s natural to feel out of control and overwhelmed.

But it really doesn’t have to be like that—I promise! The best way to make sure you don’t feel stressed, anxious, or overwhelmed during this time of the year is to take time for yourself. The term ‘self-care’ is pretty trendy these days, but it is so important to show your mind and body a little extra love … especially if you feel like you’re close to running on empty.

An easy, fun, and totally free way to recharge your batteries? Get outside in nature! Just like we recharge our crystals and energy pendants in the sun, catching some rays (even in cooler winter weather!) can be completely rejuvenating.

There are a few reasons opting outside can boost your mood and help you feel reinvigorated. First, soaking up the sun’s rays and getting some vitamin D has been scientifically proven to fight against symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder, including depression and anxiety. Getting in touch with nature can be deeply grounding, too. Earthing, or grounding, is a popular way to reconnect with the Earth’s energy and help us literally feel more rooted and grounded—which is exactly what you want if you’re feeling overwhelmed and heady because of stress.

Nature is so important to our well-being and health, which is why I’m so excited to announce that my next Teacher Training will take place in Crete, Greece! We’ll spend four weeks immersed in the natural beauty of this Grecian isle, learning about Kundalini yoga, meditation, and how to understand ourselves. It’s going to be a life-changing experience—I cannot wait for June 2018!

“I have known Maya Fiennes for many, many years. She is an extraordinary human being full of vitality, creativity, and enthusiasm but she’s also one of the best yoga teachers in the world and her specialty is Kundalini Yoga. I have experienced it myself, I have seen others benefit from her, and to be in her presence, and feel her spirit and her energy, and her teaching is an extraordinary experience.”
