Music with Maya

As a classical pianist, I started yoga to help me relax before concerts and to improve my musical performance. Performing to large crowds can be daunting and I wanted something to ease the pressure. The first type of yoga I tried was Hatha, but as I became more curious about it, I wanted to experience all the different types of yoga. I now realize that it doesn’t matter what your initial reason for starting yoga is, because at some point, something else takes over and you are in it for the ‘right’ reason. Some people start to lose weight, some to gain muscle strength, and some to be part of a new trend, but in the end, it just makes you feel better. Music is my passion. It's always been in my life and is my driving force. When other kids were playing with toys, I was always playing the piano and pretending I was performing at a concert. I used to get into a zone all on my own! This still happens now when I'm in the studio or performing at a concert. I get into a flow, in the creative zone where time stops. I get so focused listening to the breath and the musical notes. The feeling is addictive, mesmerizing, amazing, and precious. I’ve found that integrating this high vibe music into my yoga practice and my student’s practice helps us get right into that flow quickly and effortlessly.

Here's a video about what music means to me:

You can find my music on iTunes, Google Play and SoundCloud. Feel free to share the music and the love!

BLISS

Following on from my first single Love Now for the forthcoming album, Shift, I have engaged with several collaborators on my second single, BLISS. Using the foundation of the Waheguru mantra, this song was made to soothe and uplift the listener, taking you on a musical journey that encompasses electronica
along with my vocals, and I’m proud to say, some gorgeous haunting backing vocals provided by my daughter, Shanti.

The track also features some of yoga’s best known teachers and advisors such as Elena Brower and Ron Obadia, LA based songwriter and composer,
Morgan Sorne, and Magnus Fiennes, who co-wrote and produced the track.

As one of the most powerful mantras, Waheguru has been described by some as an experience of ecstasy that is beyond all description.

Allow yourself to be bathed in the beauty of Bliss.

LOVE NOW

I know it has been some time since you have heard new music from me. I am so happy to be back writing and recording music,
it is a real joy for me to be able to share it with you all.

Love Now – the new single from my forthcoming album ‘SHIFT” – is about embracing the light and dark. I sing the mantra Sat Siri Siri Akal, which accompany the uplifting and stirring instrumental bed co-written with LA based composer, Danny Cocke. Every track on the album has been written to a different frequency which aim to take the listener into a blissful inner journey. ‘Love Now’ is at the frequency of 528hz. The Love Frequency.

8. Ra Ma Da Sa 2

(mantra, repeat)

Ra ma da sa, sa say so hung…

(Spoken, poem by RUMI, called “BELOVED” )
In my hallucination, I saw my beloved’s flower garden.
In my vertigo, in my dizziness, in my drunken haze,
Whirling and dancing like a spinning wheel.
I saw myself as the source of existence,
I was there in the beginning, and I was the spirit of love.

Now I am sober, there is only the hangover, and the memory,
and only the sorrow.
I yearn for happiness. I ask for help. I want mercy,
and my love says: look at me and hear me,
because I am here just for that.

I am your moon, and your moonlight too,
I am your flower garden and your water, too
I have come all this way. Eager for you, without shoes or shawl.

I want you to laugh, to kill all your worries.
To love you, to soothe you, to nourish you.
Oh sweet bitterness, I will soothe you, and heal you.
I will bring you roses. I, too, have been covered in thorns.

Ra ma da sa, sa say so hung…

Behind The Scenes

I am often invited to perform at shows and events, and always have so much fun when I do. Here's a little clip of my performance at the
David "Avocado" Wolfe Longevity Show.

I always have so much fun in the studio, whether it's preparing for live shows or recording my music such as my new album Shift, with songs such as Bliss and Love Now. There is something magical and elemental about expressing your soul through the vibration of sounds. Below is a snapshot of me working on a brand new mantra Ram Das Guru, the guru of healing and opening the heart. In kundalini yoga, meditation and mantra are used to clear the mind of conscious, ego-driven thoughts that restrict us from experiencing joy. A mantra consists of a series of sounds - often Sanskrit words with powerful meanings - specifically designed for different effects. With Ram Das Guru, I hope you find the divinity in yourself and in your everyday life. Have a look at these sneak previews and inside looks into my creative process with this new, never-before-seen-or-heard song.

As you know, making an album is definitely a creative effort. Check out the latest pap shots from our creative process:
